| This Buttondown shirt features our Kaulanaki`i print in Pepper, Slate, Cheddar and Natural.
This design features two elements: the lehua and the koa`e. The `ohi`a lehua tree is the first to colonize new lava fields, and it is the most abundant and widespread native tree in the Hawaiian islands. In poetry, the lehua is synonymous with children or people. A forest of lehua oftentimes refers to a multitude. The koa`e is a familiar sight in the islands. This tropic bird is often found at Halema`uma`u and is nicknamed the "Crater bird" because of it. The koa`e symbolizes a strong family because it returns home daily to care for its young. Combined, the lehua and koa`e are representative of our people. Successful rooting in new lava is likened to creating a firm foundation. Like the koa`e leaves the nest and returns, so do our people to care for their `ohana and their `aina.
Inspired by the ivy-league shirts of the early 1900s, the fabric designs are pure Hawai`i, and the look is pleasingly fresh. The Buttondown is an open front, tapered shirt with a full length placket. Coconut buttons are featured on the stand-up, button-down collar and on the front placket. Fabric is machine-washable 100% cotton broadcloth. Tuck it in or leave it out over the trousers for a more casual look. Either way, it's the perfect touch of crisp aloha! |
